LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan's House Appropriations Committee has given final approval to Governor Rick Snyder's $102 million executive budget cut order to meet part of the state's projected revenue
shortfall.
The committee voted 19-10 Thursday to approve the order, which would cut spending in several state departments. The Senate Appropriations Committee gave its approval with a 13-4 vote earlier Thursday.
Two supplemental appropriations bills would reduce the current fiscal year budget by about $105 million for a total of about $207 million in budget cuts. Some of the cuts reduce or eliminate spending that was no longer needed in department budgets.
The cuts come after economists found state revenue is $289 million short of projections mostly because of large companies cashing in tax credits at a higher rate than expected.
