Peters to promote legislation at Marquette brewery

MARQUETTE, MI--   U.S. Senator Gary Peters will be in Marquette at 1:30 Monday afternoon to tour a local brewery.

The Michigan Democrat will see the production and canning process at Blackrocks Brewery, part of an effort to highlight legislation he cosponsored called the Small BREW Act.  The bill would reduce the excise tax rate per barrel from $7.00 to $3.50 on the first 60,000 barrels a brewery produces annually.  It would then save small breweries $2.00 a barrel until they hit 2 million.

Michigan has more than 150 craft breweries across the state, up from only three in 1991.
