Aides: Flint recovery efforts continue as Snyder travels

DETROIT, MI (AP)--   Michigan Governor Rick Snyder has embarked on his first trade mission since the lead-contaminated water crisis in Flint.

Aides say that even though he's traveling, the problem that has preoccupied him for months remains on his mind.

Snyder's weeklong trip to Europe began Saturday. His last overseas mission was in September, shortly before his administration confirmed improperly treated pipes had leached lead into homes and caused elevated lead levels in some children.

The governor is visiting Germany, Switzerland, Italy and the Netherlands.

Snyder spokeswoman Anna Heaton says in an email to The Associated Press that Lt. Gov. Brian Calley and other representatives will be "on the ground" in Flint while Snyder is away. She adds that "Flint's recovery is a priority for the governor, as is planning Michigan's economic future."
