Marquette City, Township to share tax revenue from future development

Marquette City Commission

MARQUETTE, MI— The City of Marquette and Marquette Township will share tax revenue from a proposed housing project.

Company JM Longyear wants to construct 240 homes along its property on Forestville Road. Most of the land lies within the township, but about 29 acres is within the city limits.

Public Act 425 allows two local units of government to share tax revenues resulting from new or expanding development within the areas of their jurisdictions. The Marquette City Commission Monday night authorized the city manager to negotiate an agreement with the township.

The project is expected to cost about $14 million.
