Cora Reynolds Anderson Post Office bill to be signed into law

The Mining Journal

BARAGA, MI— A bill to name the Baraga post office the “Cora Reynolds Anderson Post Office” is headed to President Biden for his signature.

Sponsored by Senators Gary Peters and Debbie Stabenow, the legislation aims to honor the first woman elected to the state House.

Anderson was also the first Native American woman elected to serve in any state legislature. A member of the Ojibwa Tribe, she represented parts of Baraga County starting in 1925.

The bill passed the U.S. Senate in September and the House this week. It now heads to the president’s desk to be signed into law.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
