Michael Larson now on the Marquette City Commission

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission has a new member.

At its meeting Monday night, the commission unanimously voted to fill a vacant seat with Michael Larson. Larson most recently served as the vice chair of the Marquette City Planning Commission.

Seven people applied for the seat. Commissioner Jessica Hanley said the fact that so many applications were submitted was a good problem to have.

“The problem of having too many good candidates is never a bad thing. It means we have many people that want to serve our city, and we’re lucky to have that,” she said.

The open spot on the commission was created by the resignation of Commissioner Evan Bonsall, who moved from the area.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
