Wisconsin lawmakers propose a way for candidates like RFK Jr. to get off the ballot in the future

MADISON, WI (AP)— Republican lawmakers in battleground state Wisconsin want to change state law to allow candidates to remove their names from the ballot.

This would address an issue that arose after Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wanted to get off the presidential ballot last year but couldn’t. He wanted to be removed from Wisconsin and six other swing states after dropping his independent bid in late August and endorsing Republican Donald Trump in the tight contest.

Wisconsin law did not allow Kennedy to get off the ballot. But a bill circulated Tuesday would allow candidates to ask to be removed.
