MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette City Commission has approved a contract for a traffic study of the former hospital redevelopment site.
Officials selected company DLZ of Michigan, which has performed a number of other studies for the city.
At a meeting Monday night, Commissioner Sally Davis asked why micro transportation wasn’t included in the study. Deputy City Manager Sean Hobbins said when you look at how people get from point A to point B, bikes and micro mobility devices act much in the same way as cars.
“When you’re talking about on-street infrastructure, having an idea of how traffic is moving through the area, even if you’re just limiting it to cars and trucks, is going to give us the information we need to proceed.”
The study is expected to be carried out this fall. Its $42,000 price tag will be reimbursed by the Marquette Brownfield Redevelopment Authority Revolving Loan Fund.
