Negaunee, Mich. — After 25 years with the Michigan State Police, First Lieutenant Tom Nolan, commander of the Negaunee Post, is retiring from law enforcement.
The department announced Nolan’s retirement last week, recognizing his decades of service and leadership across the U-P. Nolan is a native of Munising and a graduate of Northern Michigan University. He began his career with the state police in 2000 after graduating from the 119th Trooper Recruit School.
Nolan has served at several posts across the state, including Reed City, Munising, and Negaunee. He worked as a trooper and a uniform sergeant before being promoted to First Lieutenant. He took command of the Negaunee Post in December 2020.
As post commander, Nolan oversaw field operations in Marquette and Alger Counties, managing public safety efforts in some of the U-P’s most rural areas.
