Michigan lawmakers revive push to legalize physician-assisted suicide

Death With Dignity Facebook

Undated - Michigan lawmakers are considering bills to allow doctors to prescribe life-ending medication to terminally ill patients. House Democrats introduced the "Death with Dignity Act" last month, following a similar effort by Senate Democrats.
The proposed law would offer more medical choice to patients, according to Democratic State Representative Carrie Rheingans. However, the bills face opposition from House Republicans and the Michigan State Medical Society. Republican state Representative Matthew Bierlein called it a morally questionable proposal that lacks the buy-in of health care professionals.
Polls show changing attitudes in the US, with growing support for physician-assisted death. The bills are currently with the House Government Operations Committee.
