Another auto accident survivor loses home care, admitted to hospital

ANN ARBOR, MI (MPRN)— Another survivor of a catastrophic car crash has been admitted to a hospital after losing home care.

Kelley Miller's agency couldn't afford to keep caring for her because of the new auto no-fault law. It slashed payments from auto insurance companies to health care providers by nearly half.

Doctor Michael Andary is Miller's physician. He says another of his auto accident patients lost most of his home care recently.

“…and his wife has been doing 36-hour shifts at times. She's 70 years old. She's cracking up.”

Andary says the new law is cruel.

Officials say 18,000 people with catastrophic injuries stand to lose some or all of their care as a result of the law.

Several bills have been introduced in the state legislature to try to increase payments to home care agencies so they can stay in business.

Republican leaders have declined to schedule the bills for a hearing.
