Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center receives $10,000 matching grant

MARQUETTE, MI— A Marquette center dedicated to preventing child abuse and helping victims heal has received $10,000 from a Grand Rapids foundation.

The Northern Lights Child Advocacy Center provides support and resources to child and teen survivors of sexual and physical abuse, neglect, human trafficking, and witness to violence.

The center, which opened its doors earlier this month, successfully raised $10,000 from individual gifts and was awarded a $10,000 match from the M.E. Davenport Foundation.

Officials say the funds will be used to provide forensic interviews for children and teens, expand outreach efforts, purchase supplies and technology, and ensure that the center can reach even more children who need help.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
