LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan Attorney General Bill Schuette is planning to testify at a Senate panel hearing on the proposed overhaul of Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan.
Schuette plans to share his concerns Thursday at the Senate Insurance Committee meeting about the proposal by fellow Republican Gov. Rick Snyder that's now being reviewed by lawmakers. The panel has been holding hearings about the plan to end the nonprofit health insurer's tax-exempt status and align it with competitors.
Schuette told The Associated Press on Wednesday that he seeks a more detailed financial review of Blue Cross than the one under consideration.
Blue Cross wouldn't be sold or lose its nonprofit status. It would become an organization owned by its policyholders.
The plan requires approval by the Legislature and Blue Cross' board of directors.
