LANSING, MI (AP)-- Michigan officials say they're prepared if the Ebola virus ever strikes the Great Lakes State.
Detroit Metropolitan Airport has a quarantine station ready to isolate patients, although there are no direct flights from West Africa to Detroit. Michigan also has more than 1,000 isolation beds at hospitals.
The virus that causes Ebola is not airborne and can only be spread through direct contact with bodily fluids of an infected person who is showing symptoms.
The World Health Organization says Ebola has killed at least 3,800 people in West Africa and infected at least 8,000.
There are no approved medications for Ebola, so doctors have tried experimental treatments in some cases.
