EAST LANSING, MI (AP)-- An event this week aims to boost the number of farmers and farmers markets in Michigan accepting food-assistance benefits from shoppers.
The Michigan Farmers Markets Association hosts the Michigan Farmers Market Conference on Tuesday and Wednesday at Michigan State University in East Lansing.
The event includes the opportunity for farmers market managers and farmers who sell directly to consumers to learn more about accepting Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program benefits, which are distributed via the Michigan EBT Bridge Card.
In partnership with the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Food and Nutrition Service, training and on-site signup will be offered on Wednesday. It's part of the USDA's efforts to support farmers and promote healthy eating among food assistance recipients.
