Marquette fundraiser to help families of veterans

MARQUETTE, MI--   The Chocolay Raptor Center is holding a fundraising event for a new National Alliance on Mental Illness-Alger/Marquette class aimed at the families of service members and veterans.

“Homefront” is a six-week class to be held this fall that will teach families about mental health issues—their symptoms, medications, and other related topics.

NAMI-A/M President Cindy K. Bertucci says the classes were developed to help them understand what their loved one might be going through.

“The men and women that are coming back from being overseas, things are just getting to be too much,” she says.  “And if the family can have an idea and understand what’s going on, that will help all of them.”

The Chocolay Raptor Center will let the public meet a great horned owl, red-tailed hawk, and peregrine falcon at the fundraiser, which takes place Wednesday at 5:30 p.m. at Frazier’s Lake Superior Yacht Yard.

For more information about “Homefront”, call 906-360-7107.
