MARQUETTE, MI-- Nearly 500 EMS personnel are expected to attend the 35th annual UP-EMS Conference in Marquette this week.
It’s the state’s most comprehensive educational program for rural emergency responders. Members of the U.P.’s 75 EMS organizations will attend, as will EMS personnel from throughout Lower Michigan and Northeastern Wisconsin.
The four-day program offers 70 classes taught by 50 instructors. UP-EMS Director Bob Struck says it’s an opportunity for responders to learn from experts and practice new skills and emergency techniques. For some, it’s the only source of obtaining the education necessary to maintain their EMS license.
The conference takes place Thursday through Sunday at Northern Michigan University.
