National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is Saturday

MARQUETTE, MI--   Michigan State Police posts across the U.P. are serving as a drop-off point for unwanted medications Saturday.

In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration, troopers will collect expired and unused pills so they can be destroyed. No liquids, inhalers, patches, or syringes will be accepted.

The one-day “take-back” effort will be held at every post in the state from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Some local law enforcement agencies—like the Marquette Police Department—are participating, as well.

National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day is held twice a year. During the one-day effort in April, State Police posts collected 597 pounds of prescription drugs.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
