MMLB addresses pot shortage in MI

LANSING, MI (MPRN)--   The Board of Medical Marihuana Licensing passed a new temporary measure Wednesday to allow medical marihuana businesses to continue to buy from caregivers.

The resolution was passed unanimously by the board following complaints of product shortage from sellers and industry groups. And, after an estimated 72 sellers operating under temporary licenses were forced to close on the first of the year.

Board member Donald Bailey says while he voted for the resolution, he thinks that it’s going to place a burden on police as soon as the measure expires.

“It’s going to fall on law enforcement to deal with this black market that has expanded to supply these temporary operations,” he says.

Chairman Rick Johnson disagrees. He says they need to allow times to let things work.

“I think with the process we’ve started today we’ll work through that and we’ll take care of that problem,” he says.

The new resolution will allow sellers who haven’t gone through the full licensing process to continue operating through March 31 and sellers who have licenses to temporarily buy from caregivers in order to meet market demands.
