Additional boxes obtained for expired drug disposal in eastern U.P.

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   Chippewa County has expanded locations for its drug drop-off program.

Sheriff Mike Bitnar says he teamed up with the local Families Against Narcotics group, which paid for two new collection boxes. Residents can drop off any unused, expired, or unwanted prescription drugs in the receptacles.

One box has been installed inside the Whitefish Township Hall. The other box will be installed on Drummond Island later this spring. A collection box is already available just inside the Chippewa County Courthouse building, before the security area.

The Sheriff’s Office will collect the drugs and dispose of them. Only pills, capsules and tablets will be accepted. Needles, creams and applicators are prohibited.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
