MI Air National Guard to fly over Houghton, Marquette in honor of COVID-19 heroes

127th Wing

MARQUETTE, MI--   Pilots from the Michigan Air National Guard will fly over Houghton and Marquette Tuesday to honor healthcare workers and others.

Part of the Michigan Strong Flyover, a number of KC-135 Stratotankers from the 127th Wing based at the Selfridge Air National Guard Base will make the trip. They’re expected to arrive in Houghton around 1:20 p.m. and Marquette around 1:43 p.m. The times could change due to weather and operational requirements.

While the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will fly over Detroit Tuesday, the 127th Wing will hit a number of towns across the state. Officials say it’s being done to honor first responders, healthcare personnel and other heroes battling the COVID-19 pandemic.

Residents will be able to see the aircraft from their homes and are asked to continue social distancing measures during the flyovers.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
