Those crossing the Mighty Mac this weekend asked to be patient

ST. IGNACE, MI--   As stay-at-home orders are relaxed for the U.P. and the Traverse City area this weekend, the Mackinac Bridge Authority is asking customers to be patient.

The bridge stopped taking cash for toll payments in March and now only accepts credit or debit cards, MacPass cards, or windshield stickers. Bridge officials say using credit cards takes a few more seconds to process, but the delay adds up during times of high traffic.

The number of vehicles crossing the bridge is expected to go up this Memorial Day weekend, especially for southbound traffic. Customers are asked to be patient and kind to toll workers, who are trying to keep people as safe as possible.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
