Please get tested for COVID-19, Chippewa County health officials say

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI--   The Chippewa County Health Department is urging residents to get tested for COVID-19 as the county case count continues to rise.

Officials say since July 1 the number of confirmed and probable cases has risen by more than 50. More than half of the new positives were people under the age of 30.

The health department says COVID is everywhere, so limiting time spent with non-household members, wearing a mask in public or when 6-foot distancing can’t be maintained, and good hygiene are highly encouraged.

Officials say another method of protecting yourself and loved ones is to get tested. As of Wednesday 8,608 tests have been administered at Bay Mills Health Center, Sault Tribe Health Center and the Bureau of Labs. The number of tests administered is actually greater, since testing data from War Memorial Hospital and Lake State Health Center aren’t included.

Testing for COVID-19 is available at the following locations:

Bay Mills Tribal Health Center 906-248-5527
(appointment only)

Sault Tribe Health Center 906-632-5200
(Sault Tribe members)

War Memorial Hospital 906-632-5922
Lake Superior State University

Health Care Center 906-635-2110 (LSSU students)

Please call ahead to make an appointment or for additional information.
