Ontonagon County resident dies of COVID-19

ONTONAGON, MI--   Ontonagon County is reporting its first death attributed to COVID-19.

The Western Upper Peninsula Health Department says the elderly resident was a patient at a U.P. hospital at the time of their death.

To date, 26 people have died of the coronavirus within the health department’s five-county jurisdiction.

Officials have also identified a possible COVID-19 exposure site in Ontonagon. Anyone who visited the Citizens State Bank on East River Street October 16 through 28 may be at a higher risk of contracting the virus. Symptoms will typically appear within 2 to 14 days of exposure.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
