PFAS contamination in MI to be addressed by community group Tuesday

LANSING, MI (MPRN)— The Great Lakes PFAS Action Network will outline its priorities for government during a press conference Tuesday afternoon.

PFAS are a group of toxic chemicals found in common items like non-stick coating. They’ve received the nickname “forever chemicals” since they break down very slowly.

Action Network co-chair Tony Spaniola says state agencies are being too reactive when it comes to addressing contamination.

“We have brought these legislative proposals together based on our work with communities and scientists all across the nation and the world. And so, we think that that Michigan is doing some good things on PFAS, but we can do a whole lot more.

Spaniola says the proposals announced Tuesday will deal with prevention, cleanup, and helping those already impacted.
