NMU eases some COVID-19 restrictions

MARQUETTE, MI— A decrease in regional COVID-19 cases has prompted Northern Michigan University to change some pandemic protocols.

Interim President Kerri Schuiling says the KN95 mask requirement remains in place and will be evaluated on a weekly basis. But effective immediately, masks can be removed during physical activity periods in NMU’s recreational sports and training areas and during performance periods for dance, music and theater. Masks can also be removed in a shared office or workspace as long as all parties of the shared space agree and there is adequate social distance between individual work areas. Departments can resume holding in-person meetings and events, as long as everyone attending is masked and the room is large enough to allow adequate social distancing. And the same protocol is in effect for student organizations holding indoor, in-person events.

Spring commencement will be held in-person on April 30th unless COVID trends significantly worsen.
