Another chance to get rid of prescriptions comes up this month

MARQUETTE, MI— The Michigan State Police is partnering with the Drug Enforcement Administration and other law enforcement agencies later this month to help dispose of old or unwanted prescription medication.

Saturday, October 29 is National Prescription Drug Take-Back Day. All 30 MSP posts will participate in the one-day effort from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. by serving as drop-off points for expired, unused, and unwanted pills, which will be destroyed. No liquids, inhalers, patches, or syringes are accepted.

Studies show that a majority of abused prescription drugs are obtained from family and friends, including from the home medicine cabinet. Further, disposing of unused medicines by flushing them down the toilet or throwing them in the trash can pose environmental and health hazards.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
