COVID cases increase in Marquette area

MARQUETTE, MI— The Marquette County Health Department continues to remind residents to take precautions against COVID-19.

Earlier this week, officials said elevated levels of the SARS-CoV-2 virus have been detected in wastewater in the City of Marquette. That indicates a spread of COVID in the community.

The detections result from ongoing research being conducted by Northern Michigan University, which has been tracking genetic markers in the municipal water system since 2021.

Measures to prevent the spread of COVID include washing your hands frequently and using hand sanitizer; covering your mouth and nose with a bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze; staying current on COVID vaccines; avoiding crowds and close contacts when COVID is prevalent; and wearing a mask when physical distancing isn’t possible.
