Radon mitigation course to be offered in Marquette

MARQUETTE, MI— The Department of Environment, Great Lakes and Energy is offering a radon mitigation course in the U.P. for the first time.

Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that cannot be seen, smelled, or tasted. Long-term exposure to radon increases the risk of developing lung cancer, which accounts for more deaths in both men and women than any other form of cancer in the United States.

In partnership with Kansas State University National Radon Program Services, EGLE is offering a three-day course for contractors to learn how to offer radon mitigation in homes and businesses.

The course will be held September 4-6 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Marquette Ramada Inn. Anyone interested in the course offering should register or contact Les Smith, at 517-388-6913 or Radon@Michigan.gov.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
