LANSING, MI— The Michigan Department of Transportation is suspending road work to ease holiday travel this weekend.
MDOT is removing lane restrictions on 60 percent of its road and bridge projects statewide. From 3 p.m. Wednesday through 6 a.m. Monday, restrictions on 105 out of 174 projects will be suspended.
AAA estimates more than 2.6 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home during the July 4th holiday weekend—a record for the second consecutive year.
While motorists will see suspended operations in most MDOT work zones for the weekend, drivers are advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
