Most construction-related lane restrictions to be lifted for 4th holiday

DEARBORN, MI— With record numbers of people expected to travel this Independence Day weekend, the Michigan Department of Transportation is easing lane restrictions across the state.

AAA estimates more than 2.6 million Michigan residents are expected to travel 50 miles or more from home over the weekend—up 1 percent from last year—establishing a new record.

Beginning at 3 p.m. Thursday and continuing until 6 a.m. Monday, 106 out of 177 MDOT projects will have lane restrictions removed. While drivers will see suspended operations in most state road work zones for the weekend, they’re advised that equipment and certain traffic configurations may remain in place, like temporary shifts or shoulder closures.
