MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership is getting $1.5 million to help lift Upper Peninsula residents out of poverty.
The Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity announced Tuesday it’s distributing awards to ten of the state’s large nonprofits. It’s an attempt to raise citizens above the Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—or ALICE—threshold.
The money for the SWP comes through the MI Impact Grant program, which aims to address disparities that affect Michiganders’ abilities to afford necessities such as housing, child care, food, health care, and transportation.
The grant will assist residents in every U.P. county.
