Utility assistance available for low-income residents from SWP

MARQUETTE, MI— The Superior Watershed Partnership Energy and Climate Office has received $1.57 million for Upper Peninsula utility assistance.

The grant comes from the Michigan Department of Labor and Economic Opportunity’s MI Impact program. The funding will allow the SWP to provide more assistance to low-income and Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed—or ALICE—populations.

Households with incomes up to 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for assistance with water and waste bills, and now households with incomes between 151 percent and 300 percent of the Federal Poverty Level may qualify for heat and electric assistance, as well.

Those in need of utility assistance can call the SWP Climate and Energy Office at 906-273-2742.
