UPPER PENINSULA, MI— Officials are warning residents in the western Upper Peninsula to take measures to keep cool Monday and Tuesday, as a massive heat dome descends upon the Midwest.
The National Weather Service office in Negaunee says a heat advisory is in effect from noon Eastern Monday through 8 p.m. Tuesday. Highs could top 96 degrees in some areas, creating heat index values of up to 103 degrees.
Officials are telling residents to drink plenty of fluids, stay in air-conditioned rooms, stay out of the sun, and limit strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Also, make sure you check up on relatives and neighbors.
