ST. IGNACE, MI— Work on the Mackinac Bridge won’t be finished as soon as officials had hoped.
The first season of a two-season repaving project on the bridge’s north viaduct and approach truss spans—originally scheduled to be completed by May 23rd—will not be completed until June 7th. The contractor cited additional patching work and an inability to field full work crews as the reason for the delay.
The Mackinac Bridge Authority is urging crews to work around the clock, but lane closures during Memorial Day travel are expected to cause traffic backups.
