Republic Township gets money to update its water treatment system

USDA

REPUBLIC TOWNSHIP, MI— The U.S. Department of Agriculture has awarded a grant and loan to Republic Township to upgrade its water and sewer system.

The Township will use a $1.3 million loan and $1.6 million grant to expand the internal capacity of the water treatment system. It will adjust the system to accommodate water treatment standards and higher usage demands in winter, when people use more water to avoid freezing lines.

The project will replace hydrants, undersized watermains, and valves.

Officials say the new service lines will allow a safer, uninterrupted water supply, efficient fire protection, and increased water treatment capacity.
