Houghton County traffic changes anticipated over the next few days

road work ahead

HOUGHTON COUNTY, MI— Drivers in Houghton County should be aware of two traffic-based changes over the next week.

The traffic signal on M-26 at Canal Road in Houghton from flash mode into full operation on Monday, May 11. The signal will display green, amber, and red phases for all directions beginning at 6 a.m.

Traffic counts show a traffic signal is warranted during the peak summer season. It will operate through October.

And on Thursday, May 7, crews working for the Houghton County Road Commission will build a box culvert at the M-26/Ripley Street intersection in Ripley. The work will repair damaged infrastructure from the 2018 Father’s Day Flood and should be completed sometime in June of next year.

Single-lane closures will occur.
