Ribbon-cutting held for Ironwood water system, Rudyard Township gets USDA loan

IRONWOOD AND RUDYARD TOWNSHIP, MI— USDA Michigan Rural Development celebrated Ironwood’s new water system and announced a major loan for Rudyard Township Wednesday.

Ironwood partnered with USDA Rural Development to improve the city’s drinking water system. Enhancements took place in four phases beginning in 2010. The city ultimately received $15.4 million in loans and $9.3 million in grants.

And Rudyard Township is receiving more than a million dollars to make improvements to its municipal wastewater collection and treatment system. That includes sludge removal, repairs to the earthen berms surrounding treatment lagoons, and improvements to the lift station and grinder pumps.

The Township provided $45,000 for a total project cost of $1.1 million.
