Sex offender sweep results in ten arrest warrants

MARQUETTE, MI--   Marquette County law enforcement says arrest warrants have been requested for ten people, following an address verification sweep of convicted sex offenders.

State Police from the Negaunee Post say 198 residences were checked in the two-month-long sweep.  They say ten offenders failed to change their address after moving as required by law.

The Michigan Sex Offenders Registration Act requires registered sex offenders to regularly report to their local law enforcement agency.  Failure to do so could mean up to two years in jail.

The sweep also included the Marquette City, Negaunee City, and Ishpeming Police Departments, Chocolay and Forsyth Township Police, NMU Public Safety, and the Marquette County Sheriff’s Department.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
