Lovelace gets Crime Fighter award

TRAVERSE CITY, MI--   Marquette County Sheriff Mike Lovelace has been honored for his efforts to fight crime.

The group Fight Crime: Invest in Kids Michigan gave Lovelace its “Crime Fighter Award” during the Michigan Sheriff’s Association recent fall training conference.

Clinton County Sheriff Wayne Kangas is the group’s co-chair.  He says, “Sheriff Lovelace’s work has helped to set an agenda that is both tough and smart on crime.  By getting at the front-end through prevention programs, we can nip crime in the bud and reduce the negative consequences at the tail-end that usually result in shattered lives and high costs associated with incarceration.”

Kangas says Lovelace has participated in meetings with lawmakers to promote programs that help kids succeed in school and beyond.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
