Negaunee MSP troopers honored for their service

NEGAUNEE, MI--   Four troopers with the Michigan State Police Negaunee Post have been honored for their efforts.

Troopers Matt Lequia, Joshua Nasser, Ryan Giroux, and Ryan Gerbig are recipients of the “Corporal Samuel A. Mapes Criminal Patrol and Investigation Award.”  Mapes, an early pioneer in criminal patrol and investigation, was killed in the line of duty during the prohibition era. The award honors the top five percent of troopers in each district for looking “past the traffic stop” to excel in criminal patrols and investigations closed by felony arrests.

Each recipient received a special service ribbon to wear on their uniform.  The troopers were recognized at a ceremony in Lansing last week.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
