Identities of car fire victims released

HOUGHTON, MI--   Police have released the names of two people found inside a burning car in Houghton County Sunday.

The Sheriff’s Office says the victims have been identified as Joshua Michael Becia, 19, of Portage Township and Jay Henry Stevens, 19, of Painsdale.

Deputies were called to Donken/Tapiola Road in Portage Township Sunday night and found the vehicle in flames. Becia and Stevens were found inside after the fire was extinguished.

Autopsies have been performed but no cause of death for either victim has been released.

No other details are yet available.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
