Missing special needs man found in Ishpeming through Life Tracker wristband

ISHPEMING, MI— The Marquette County Sheriff’s Office was able to find a missing special needs man Thursday, thanks to the Life Tracker program.

The 23-year-old walked away from an adult foster home in Ishpeming. Special Operations deputies found the man within seven minutes. He was returned home, uninjured.

Through the Life Tracker program, families receive special wristbands for their loved ones with autism, dementia, or Alzheimer’s. The bands contain transmitters that broadcast the wearer’s location to law enforcement agencies that can pick up the signal.

The Sheriff’s Office credits Life Tracker with the quick response time.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
