Immigrants stopped downstate now being processed in the Soo

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Nineteen non-U.S. citizens are being held in Sault Ste. Marie after their bus was stopped in Grand Traverse County Friday.

The bus was pulled over after police saw it driving erratically. The driver didn’t have a U.S. driver’s license but did produce a Mexican voter registration card.

The immigrants were taken to U.S. Border Patrol in the Soo, where they were processed. All were given notices to appear and placed in immigration removal proceedings.

No other details about the incident are available at this time.
