Three people found living in unsafe house in the Soo

SAULT STE. MARIE, MI— Sault Ste. Marie Police officers are investigating a situation where three people were living in an uninhabitable house in the city.

On September 11, a man walked into the police department and asked for help. He was taken to the hospital.

Officers were granted a search warrant for a house at 706 Easterday Avenue. They say it appeared unfit to live in.

A Soo Fire Department and Code Enforcement Officer inspected the structure and declared it unsafe for human occupancy due to unsanitary conditions and structural concerns. A notice prohibiting entry was posted on the house.

Police learned a 38-year-old man, 38-year-old woman, and 19-year-old man lived at the home before the notice was posted. Officers found no information supporting a rumor that someone was being held captive at the residence.

An investigation into the situation in ongoing.
