Girl injured by knife in Bates Township

BATES TOWNSHIP, MI— Michigan State Police from the Iron Mountain Post are investigating how a Bates Township girl was wounded by a knife Monday.

Just after 9 p.m., troopers responded to a report of a juvenile female who sustained a serious knife injury at a home on Bates-Amasa Road. She was taken from the scene and is receiving medical treatment.

According to Eighth District Public Information Officer Spl/Lt. Ben Eckola, “We understand that incidents like this can cause concern in the community, and we appreciate the public’s patience and cooperation as the investigation continues. MSP is committed to ensuring a thorough investigation is completed into this incident and to ensuring the public’s safety.”

Troopers and detectives are actively pursuing all leads in efforts to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident. At this stage of the investigation, a definitive conclusion has not been reached.

As part of the process, MSP is interviewing anyone with information about the incident, collecting and reviewing evidence, and working collaboratively with other local law enforcement agencies.
