Ben Galetto named 2025 Police Officer of the Year for Houghton and Keweenaw Counties

HANCOCK, MI— An officer with the Hancock Police Department was honored at the recent Copper Country Pigs-N-Heat fundraiser hockey game.

Officer Ben Galetto was named the 2025 Police Officer of the Year for Houghton and Keweenaw Counties. He joined the department in 2024.

Galetto received a Life Saving Award last July for performing CPR on an unresponsive Hancock resident and saving their life. He also serves with the Hancock Fire Department and the National Guard Reserves.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
