ALGER COUNTY, MI— The Michigan Air National Guard will use a section of M-28 between Wetmore and Shingleton Tuesday for military exercises.

Twelve planes will touch down and conduct other operations on the 9,000 stretch as part of the guard’s “Northern Agility 22-1” exercises. The event will focus on Agile Combat Employment—an application to Air Force operations that enables crews to deliver air power anytime, anywhere to complicate an adversary’s decision making.

M-28 east of Munising will be closed from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. A detour will be posted.

Hanley Field in Alger County and Sawyer International Airport in Marquette County will also be involved in the operations.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
