Overdue hunter found safe in Duncan Township over the weekend

DUNCAN TOWNSHIP, MI— A Sidnaw man who was overdue getting back from hunting in Houghton County was found safe on Saturday.

Sheriff’s deputies responded around 1:15 a.m. to South Sidnaw Road in Duncan Township. They were able to pinpoint the 58-year-old hunter’s location through pings from his cell phone and his vehicle’s OnStar service.

The man was found after a one-hour search. Officials say he was in good health.

Deputies were assisted by the Keweenaw County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit, the Keweenaw Bay Indian Community K-9 Unit, and the Negaunee Regional Communication Center.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
