Searchers locate missing Ontonagon woman with dementia

ONTONAGON TOWNSHIP, MI— An Ontonagon Township woman who walked away from her home has been found, safe and sound.

Wednesday around 9:45 p.m., troopers from the Wakefield Post and deputies from the Ontonagon County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a 79-year-old woman who had gone missing. The woman had dementia and had left her home carrying her pet cat.

After extensive search efforts, the woman and the cat were found unharmed at about 4:30 a.m.

She was treated for dizziness and dehydration at Aspirus Ontonagon Hospital and later released.

Nicole was born near Detroit but has lived in the U.P. most of her life. She graduated from Marquette Senior High School and attended Michigan State and Northern Michigan Universities, graduating from NMU in 1993 with a degree in English.
